Introduced into Scandinavia in the 8th century, this type of brooch was used as a clothing fastener. This style rapidly spread with the Vikings as they moved across Europe and beyond. This pewter replica is based on an original from East Anglia.

Gold Plated St. Ninian's Penanular Brooch

 

Material: Pewter with gold plate.

Another brooch based on a find from the St. Ninian's Isle hoard. Like the original, the pin is inset with a glass cabachon, each terminal countains 4 more and a final one is in the centre of the brooch itself.

Colours of the cabachons may vary.

Material: Pewter with gold plate
Stone choice: Red orGreen
Dimentions: 71mm, pin length 115mm
This gold plated brooch is based on one from the St. Ninians Isle hoard from Scotland.
Though the originals were in silver, they were of a low level of purity. This means that modern day pewter is a good substitute.

Anglo Saxon Brooches

Anglo Saxon Short Long Brooches

These are a gold plated pewter version of an Anglo Saxon fibula style brooch of the 5th/6th century. They are a smaller version of the long brooches of the same period, and were worn either singly, fastening a cloak, or in pairs to fasten a dress or peplos. These brooches, while simple in design, sport a pair of eagle or raven heads, which were a common motif in Anglo Saxon Art.

Gold Plated Luck of Lochland

Material: Pewter with gold plate
Dimentions: 64mm X 40mm
Irish annals suggest that Lochland was a Viking kingdom in Scotland in the 8th/9th century. This pewter brooch is an original design based on the 10th century ‘Jelling Style.’ It is inspired by original brooches and the one described in ‘Who’s Afraid of Beowulf’ by Tom Holt.

The brooches are 8.2 cm long, and weigh about 100g. Based on a find from Lisbjerg, Denmark, they sport a very cheerful looking gripping beast design.

This pewter disc brooch is a reproduction of a find from York, and dates to the
9th/10th century.

Due to its location, it indicates that there were good trade links between the Vikings
& Saxons of the period.

Viking Jellinge Style Brooch

A pewter brooch based on a Viking age find from York. This disc brooch shows a ‘backwards looking animal,’ a typical Saxon style. Here this imagery has been used by a Viking jeweller, who then added his own twist to the classic Saxon design.
